Doctor

Ella gets two shots today...ouch
I always thought that all moms were tough, and things like shots didn't scare them. Now I am a mom and my little girl is getting shots I don't think I'll even be able to watch. Pretty much I am a wimp.

update:
She actually received 5 vaccines 4 shots and one by mouth. I felt so bad, she started to frown and cried her "sad" cry(which quickly turned to her mad, pain and frightened cry. But shes a champ! She stopped crying as soon as they were done and then puked the polio vaccine out onto the nurse. (and just as a side note, I almost cried but thought one of us should keep it together.)So, we survived.

Eight Weeks

Ella is growing up so fast! Already two months old, I cant believe it. She has started to sleep again, thank goodness. Last night she slept form 8p.m. till 1 a.m. She started to make noises so I figured she was hungry, but she just fell asleep when I tried to feed her so I put her back in bed and she slept till 3:30. I guess if I had let her be she would have slept form 8p.m. till 3:30a.m. Crazy! After she ate she went back to sleep until 6:30. I could get used to this.
She has started to laugh. Too cute. She LOVES to talk. She will babble on and on la la ah ya. Two days ago she figured out that she could blow raspberries. She gathers up her bubbly spit and spews it from her mouth. It is great fun. If I knew when she had plans to do these things I would take a video, but so far no luck. Our days consist of eating, sleeping, playing, smiling, outrageous diapers and long walks. I love my new stroller! I even have been running, though I might need to wait a bit longer before doing a 5K since I am way out of shape.

Sea World and Seven Weeks (plus one day)

Last Saturday we went to Sea World! It was a loads of fun. I was a bit worried about Ella but she took it in stride. She slept almost the entire time only waking up to eat twice. I know... awesome. We went on the rides and watched almost every show. My favorite is shamu, it is very inspirational. Charles however liked the fun frivolity of the dolphin show. It was a very enjoyable day.

So this week Ella has not been sleeping as well but we are hoping that is just a phase. She is smiling more often and always wants to play. She really is a good baby. I bought a jogging stroller so she has enjoyed sleeping while I walk/run. Life is great! She is getting so chubby! :)

Thoughts for Friday

I love waking up in the early hours of the morning to the sound of birds chirping. It fills me with energy and hope for the coming day. Lately I have also been waking up to the sound of my little girl when she is read to eat. Tucking her into bed with me, she begins to suck in life. The little noises she makes are soothing, reminders of my new calling to motherhood. My memory drives me backwards to a warm day in November. My family lived in sunny southern California. To me home was the three bedroom flat with the large heater at the end of the hall that my siblings and I used to huddle around after bath time. I awoke early that morning to birds and the soft sound of my mother sweeping off the back porch. It was then I remembered. It was my birthday! I was so excited; I quietly got out of bed and walked over to the back door. I sat on the stoop and watched my mom sweep. Steady rhythmic motions, swish, swish, swish. Like the sound of milk being sucked into a baby’s mouth. This morning I feel that same sort of excited feeling as lay warm in bed surrounded by my family. Outside the bird chirps on. It’s going to be a good day!

Five Weeks

Sitting here thinking about the last five weeks, I cannot believe how fast they have gone. Though at week 3-4 I would have told you they were creeping by. Ella decided not to sleep for those weeks. But that is what makes week 5 so amazing! She is FINALLY sleeping.

knock on wood.

She is asleep right now, but since I am posting this, she will probably wake up and in defiance stay awake all day and night. Monday night she slept for six hours. Tuesday night she slept for three to four hour periods and last night (drum roll) she slept from 9:30 p.m. till 3a.m. and then ate for about 20 min, fell right asleep and then only woke up at 4 a.m. for a diaper change. Then she slept till 7 AM. Now, for all you who don't have kids yet, imagine sleeping for only about three hours a night for a month and then finally sleeping for six hours. Yeah. Awesome.

This is how she fell asleep last night.

Despite it all, I LOVE being a mom.

And yes, she pretty much always sleeps in her car seat. Whatever flips her boat.

Oh and for some kicks, check this out. You just have to hand it to those old ladies, they are tough. :)

Lovin San Diego!

Ella and I took a trip down to San Diego, Charles had to work that week but he joined us for the weekend. It was the perfect week to go, the weather was perfect! (sometimes a little to warm for Ella)The neighbors let us borrow an extra stroller so we were able to venture out into the great outdoors. (Ella was shaded from the sun of course but I have a nice start of a tan!:) Ella is now showing more emotion and can hold her head up for short periods of time. Sometimes I wonder if she is bored, so we decided to lay her next to the flower arrangement and to see what she would do...

Maybe she will grow up to be a botanist.

Here are some other fun pics from the week,
