So I think that I am going to buy one. the requirements are that it needs to be cheap. Second hand is probably what I will get but it needs to be capable of sewing without breaking all the time. So what are some good machines? Does anyone have any thoughts, ideas or tips?
thanks!

Laura, I just recently bought a sewing machine for myself too! I got this one on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Brother-CS6000I-60-Stitch-Computerized-Functions/dp/B000JQM1DE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1268775667&sr=8-1
It might be a little more than you are willing to spend, but the Brother machines are good. I haven't had any problems with mine, and I have used it on some really tough fabrics and my lace and nylon headbands.
I was going for cheap too, but after doing the research, I didn't want to spend like $50 on a machine that I wasn't sure was in good condition or would work for what I needed it for. I figure my sewing machine is going to last me a long time, so it better be versatile for all sorts of projects, both light weight, and heavy fabrics. Good luck!
Check out www.patternreview.com They have sewing machine reviews, including older models and models you can get at places like Walmart which may be in your price range.
I would also look on craigs list for a machine. You can often get good deals on there.
Advice on sewing machines? You have married into the right family.
lol, Elliott
